The invention provides a direct injection engine and a combustion forming method thereof. The method includes the steps of S1, injecting gasoline fuel into a combustion chamber in a compression stroke twice to form a first fuel mixture gas region, a second fuel mixture gas region and an air region in the combustion chamber from inside to outside, wherein the excess air coefficient of the first fuel mixture gas region is less than that of the second fuel mixture gas region; S2, compressing the gas in the combustion chamber to enable the gas in the first fuel mixture gas region to spontaneously combust. According to the direct injection engine and the combustion forming method thereof, the way of injecting gasoline fuel into the combustion chamber in the compression stroke twice is used for forming compression ignition three-region mixture gas layered in the combustion chamber, and a cylinder of ultra-high compression ratio is used for enabling the gas in the first fuel mixture gas region to be in a spontaneous combustion critical state, so that the efficient and clean combustion with ultra-high compression ratio, ultra-lean-burn, anti-knock performance and low heat dissipation can be achieved.
