The method comprises the steps of background suppression: suppressing the background of a target by utilizing brightness contrast significance-based radiation energy characteristics and the isotropic characteristics of a fan-shaped Gaussian differential filter; track extraction: extracting the movement track characteristics of the target by utilizing an inter-frame difference method and a constant false alarm rate threshold value segmentation method; and result output: according to the movement track continuity of the track, obtaining a final detection result. The invention further provides a detection system for detecting the infrared weak and small target. Based on the technical scheme of the invention, the directional characteristics, the energy characteristics and the movement characteristics of the ground observation image of a sky-based satellite are comprehensively analyzed. Therefore, the interference on various complex false alarm sources on the ground surface is effectively weakened. The false alarm rate of the detection is reduced, and the robustness of the algorithm is enhanced. Moreover, the calculation is simple and efficient, and the real-time performance is high. The method and the system can be conveniently realized on a hardware platform.
