System for contactless power transfer between nacelle and tower of a windturbine

a technology of contactless power transfer and wind turbine, which is applied in the direction of machines/engines, liquid fuel engines, forging/pressing/hammering apparatuses, etc., can solve the problems of mechanism maintenance, add to construction costs, fatigue and failure, etc., and achieves the effect of reducing the size and thus the weight of the rotating transformer arrangement, reducing costs, and more compact transformers

Benefits of technology

The present invention relates to a new way of transmitting electricity from generators inside a nacelle to a tower through wires. Instead of relying on slip rings or direct connections, this method allows for multiple turns around the tower while still maintaining good orientation during the wind's movement. Additionally, the use of a free yaw system eliminated the need for active systems to control the rotation of the nacelle in response to changes in the wind direction. Overall, these technical improvements make the process safer and efficient compared to traditional methods.

Problems solved by technology

The technical problem addressed in this patent is how to efficiently transmit power without adding extra weight and cost to the existing system. Additionally, there is a risk of cables getting damaged during operation due to their own weight and torsional force. To address this issue, the patent proposes a new solution involving a nacelle equipped with a rotor and a tower. However, this approach can only work when the pitch angle of the drive shaft matches the desired angle.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a transformer (100) for the transfer of electrical power from a nacelle (250) of a horizontal-axis wind turbine to a turbine tower (350) of said wind turbine whereby the nacelle (250) is in revolute attachment to the tower (350), comprising: a primary winding (200) adapted for attachment to the nacelle (250), and a secondary winding (300) adapted for attachment to the turbine tower (350), which windings (200, 300) are in revolute alignment with each other, and configured for transfer of electrical power by induction from the primary winding (200) to the secondary winding (300). It also relates to a method for assembly or disassembly of a wind turbine.
