Pasture (from the Latin pastus, past participle of pascere, "to feed") is land used for grazing. Pasture lands in the narrow sense are enclosed tracts of farmland, grazed by domesticated livestock, such as horses, cattle, sheep, or swine. The vegetation of tended pasture, forage, consists mainly of grasses, with an interspersion of legumes and other forbs (non-grass herbaceous plants). Pasture is typically grazed throughout the summer, in contrast to meadow which is ungrazed or used for grazing only after being mown to make hay for animal fodder. Pasture in a wider sense additionally includes rangelands, other unenclosed pastoral systems, and land types used by wild animals for grazing or browsing.

The invention discloses a method for increasing the emergence rate of alfalfa planting in moderate saline-alkali soil in northern arid regions, and belongs to the technical field of saline-alkali soil improvement and pasture planting. The method comprises the following steps that alfalfa seeds are sown from mid-to-late July to early August, irrigation and short-term field steeping are conducted after sowing, and meanwhile an acid saline-alkali soil conditioner is applied; according to the method, alfalfa seeds are sown from the middle and last ten days of July to the first ten days of August, the air temperature is high, the soil salt return degree is low, and alfalfa germination is better facilitated; according to the method, sowing is conducted firstly, then irrigation and field steeping are conducted, and the problem that seedling emergence of alfalfa is not facilitated due to field surface hardening can be solved; meanwhile, a large amount of irrigation for field steeping also has a salt leaching effect, and a saline-alkali soil acidity modifier is further added during irrigation, so that the alkalinity of the soil can be relieved, and alfalfa germination is promoted; by means of the method, the emergence rate of alfalfa can be remarkably increased to 75% or above.
