Abstract

A transmission for a vehicle is provided and includes a plurality of button portions that each include a button and a light emitting portion and the button is pushed to select a gear shift stage. The light emitting portion includes a light source. A gear shift condition determination unit determines gear shift conditions. Additionally, a controller is configured to determine a current gear shift stage and a selectable gear shift stage that corresponds to the gear shift conditions. The controller further turns on the light source included in the light emitting portion included in the button portions that corresponds to the current shift gear shift stage and the selectable gear shift stage. The light emitting portion that corresponds to the current gear shift stage and the light emitting portion that corresponds to the selectable gear shift stage are configured to emit light having different brightness levels or different colors.
