AI Technical Summary

Benefits of technology

This patented device helps prevent damage caused by excessive pressure on blood vessels when performing surgeries involving cutting off nerves inside body tissue. It uses special wraps made up of strong materials like plastic foam with holes at regular intervals along their edges. These wrapped around certain areas can help keep them out of harm due to external forces. Additionally, there are devices called connectors used instead of cables to attach these wrapping members to the patients arms. There may even have a separate bag containing each component separately - one holds the end of the cord connected to the equipment and another keeps the restraint tight against the skin.

Problems solved by technology

Technological Problem: In orthopedics procedures where there needs to be a better way to support and fix certain areas around their shoulders while also allowing them to move freely throughout the procedure with minimal effort. Existing mechanisms like clamps that attach to the skin surface often cause discomfort due to pressure points caused by friction when they press against the skin causing pain overtime. Specialized equipment has become available but requires manual manipulation, making it difficult if necessary at all times. Additionally, existing methods involve bulky apparatus used outside the operating room, adding extra steps beyond what was intended.

Abstract

An apparatus that controls the rotation of an operative limb during shoulder surgery is composed of three parts: 1) a mechanism that is part of the durable apparatus, and which allows the limb to be suspended from the system and traction weights applied, but is configured in such a manner that the cable or other connecting member does not rotate about its axis; 2) a sterile connector that acts as the interface between the non-sterile durable apparatus and a sterile patient-contacting disposable drape; and 3) the disposable drape which is secured to the patient's operative arm. One of the sterile connector and the disposable drape contains a feature that allows the physician to rotate and hold the limb in any desired position, without requiring that it be manually held in place.
