2 results about "Iron filings" patented technology

Iron filings are very small pieces of iron that look like a light powder. They are very often used in science demonstrations to show the direction of a magnetic field. Since iron is a ferromagnetic material, a magnetic field induces each particle to become a tiny bar magnet. The south pole of each particle then attracts the north poles of its neighbors, and this process repeated over a wide area creates chains of filings parallel to the direction of the magnetic field. Iron Filings are used in many places, including schools where they test the reaction of the filings to magnets. They are also used in some toys, most famously Wooly Willy, where they serve to mimic hair on a cartoon face.

A disclosed separation apparatus for iron-filing waste slag comprises a motor base, a conveying belt and a motor driving the conveying belt to operate, and is characterized in that a position, at the initial position of the conveying belt, of the motor base is provided with a feeding bin, a discharging port at the bottom of the feeding bin is provided with a sensor; the rear of feeding bin is provided with a plurality of electromagnet rods installed on the motor base through a support, a material distribution bin is arranged at a position corresponding to the end of the conveying belt and below the motor base and is installed on support legs of the motor base through a rail, and the material distribution bin is connected with a servo motor through a gear and a rack. The separation apparatus overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art, and is reasonable in designed structure. According to the separation apparatus, the electromagnet is arranged on the conveying belt for adsorbing iron filings in iron-filing waste slag, after the sensor senses that conveying of the iron-filing waste slag in the feeding bin is finished, the electromagnet is power-off and iron filings fall on the conveying belt and are conveyed out, so that the purpose of separating iron filings from waste slag is realized. The separation apparatus helps to save labor, and is high in efficiency, high in separation rate for iron filings from iron-filing waste slag and wide in application scope.
