AI Technical Summary

Benefits of technology

This technology uses different colors (red/green) or patterns within each pixel to create an accurate representation of plants' surface areas without being affected by any other factors like welders during construction work. By performing this process over these colored regions, it becomes possible to automatically separate out desirable parts of crops based upon their shape characteristics. These separated segments help with various applications including fields operation monitoring, intelligents devices, and robotic systems.

Problems solved by technology

Technics aim at improving the accuracy and speed of identifying specific parts (target) within digital images obtained during crop management processes like weeding out with herbicides or pesticides. Current methods involve manually observing and analyzing photosynthetically grown areas containing multiple layers of foliage, making them time-consuming and prone to human error. There are currently no efficient ways to efficiently identify and isolate these targets without damaging surrounding tissues.

Abstract

The invention provides a plant leaf image extraction method and device. The method is characterized by carrying out threshold processing on subimages on red/green/blue color channels and obtaining binary images; and after obtaining the binary images, carrying out fitting on pixel points in the binary images and extracting target plant leaves. According to the technical scheme, interference of field complex environment can be overcome, and the target plant leaves can be segmented accurately and intactly; the method not only can improve leaf edge detection precision and reduce leaf identification error probability, but also can be applied to mobile terminals, such as a smart phone; the method is suitable for field operation; and the application range of the method is broadened.
