Benefits of technology

The present invention relates to a medical device called a catheter that can deliver medicine to various parts of the body. It consists of two components: a flexible tip made of plasma copper (Cu), and a balloon made of soft polymer. When the tip reaches the desired position inside the body, the balloon is inflated and the medications contained in the balloon are released. By doing this, the device helps prevent tissues from getting damaged during procedures. Additionally, the device uses a negative electric potential to create an electrical charge on the battery and maintain a constant voltage across the device. Overall, the device improves safety and efficiency in treating patients.

Problems solved by technology

This patent describes various technical problem addressed in this patent text: how to deliver electromagnetic impulse therapy (EI) using balloon electrodes to treat conditions like hypertension and heart failure without causing complications. Current solutions involve inserting the EI electrodes directly inside the esophagus, but they have limitations due to their size and complexity. There is a need for new products and methods to address these issues.

Embodiment Construction

[0039]In the present invention, electrical energy is applied to one or more electrodes in the presence of an electrically conductive fluid to deliver an electromagnetic field to a patient. The techniques of the present invention may be performed in a conventional open surgery environment or in a minimally invasive manner through a natural body orifice, percutaneously through the patient's skin or using cannulas or port access devices. The invention is particularly useful for applying electrical impulses that interact with the signals of one or more nerves, or muscles, to achieve a therapeutic result, such as relaxation of the smooth muscle of the bronchia, increase in blood pressure associated with orthostatic hypotension, reduction in blood pressure, treatment of epilepsy, treating ileus conditions, depression, anaphylaxis, obesity, and / or any other ailment affected by nerve transmissions, such as the vagus nerve or the spinal cord. In particular, the present invention can be used t

Abstract

The present invention provides systems, apparatus and methods for selectively applying electrical energy to body tissue. A device is provided having an enclosure within an outer wall formed from an electrically-permeable material to allow for electrical energy to pass from the interior of the enclosure through the outer wall. The device further includes an electrode positioned within the interior of the enclosure and a fluid passage coupled to the enclosure for delivery of an electrically conductive fluid into the interior of the enclosure such that the electrically conductive fluid couples the electrode with the electrically-permeable section of the outer wall. The conductive fluid allows for the passage of electrical energy from the electrode through the fluid and the outer wall of the enclosure for treatment of tissue on or in a patient. In this manner, the electrode does not directly contact the tissue of the patient, which reduces the potential for collateral tissue damage or necrosis and/or excessive electric fields in the tissue.
