Benefits of technology

This patented technology allows for communication over both an analog phone line (POTS) or digital cellular system (PCM). It uses a gatekeeper unit attached to one end of each phone's circuit board within this equipment called the main local loop. To make it easier than just connecting two phones together through their own connections, they can switch back into the original phone mode when there’re no more data being transmitted without disconnecting them altogether.

Problems solved by technology

The present technology described relates to improving accessibility to emergency services over mobile phonanet communication systems while avoiding interruption and expense. It involves developing a system where wireless devices called "pirons," which connect directly to conventional landline telecommunications without disrupting regular businesses' operations. These people also want to maintain contact with them regularly despite lack of spare power. There currently exist methods like connecting two separate circuits - dongled lines used for voice calling and placing temporary wireless phones near homes.

Abstract

An apparatus is provided for creating a gateway between a wired telephone and a wireless telephone network. The gateway device is connected to a wired home telephone network having one or more wired telephones, a wired telephone network, such as the PSTN, and a wireless telephone network. The apparatus may operate in a first mode that allows the wired telephone network to be utilized as a primary telephone network for the wired home telephone network and the wireless telephone network to be utilized as a backup in case of failure of the wired telephone network. Alternatively, the apparatus may operate in a second mode that allows the wireless telephone network to be utilized as a primary telephone network for the wired home telephone network and the wired telephone network to be utilized as a backup in case of failure of the wireless telephone network. The selection of the operating mode for the apparatus may be based upon user selection, a user-specified time schedule, dialed digits, or other factors.
