Problems solved by technology

However, since the flow rate of the gas to be detected reaching the one electrode (cathode) is limited by the diffusion resistor, the consumption rate of oxygen due to the oxygen pumping action soon exceeds the supply rate of oxygen to the cathode.

[0048] The first embodiment

[0049] The gas detection device (hereinafter sometimes referred to as the “first device”) according to the first embodiment of the present invention will be described below. The first device is a dual-cell gas sensor (gas detection device) equipped with two electrochemical cells. In the first device, the second electrochemical cell (pump unit) on the upstream side decomposes and discharges oxygen and nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas as the detected gas, and the first electrochemical cell (sensor cell) on the downstream side Decompose and detect water and sulfur oxides in the detected gas.

[0050] structure

[0051] The component part 10 of the first device is such as figure 1 As shown, it includes a first solid electrolyte body 11s, a second solid electrolyte body 12s, a first alumina layer 21a, a second alumina layer 21b, a third alumina layer 21c, a fourth alumina layer 21d, and a fifth alumina layer. The layer 21e, the sixth aluminum oxide layer 21

[0122] Second embodiment

[0123] The first device is a dual-cell gas sensor (gas detection device) equipped with two electrochemical cells. In contrast, the gas detection device according to the second embodiment of the present invention (hereinafter sometimes referred to as "second device") is a single unit that does not include a second electrochemical cell (pump unit) upstream of the first device. Battery-type gas sensor.

[0124] structure

[0125] Figure 5 This is to show the structure of a single-cell gas sensor related to the second device. The element section 10 of the gas sensor has the following structure, namely, from figure 1 In the element portion 10 included in the first device shown, the second electrochemical cell 12c (the third electrode 12a, the fourth electrode 12b, and the second solid electrolyte body 12s), the sixth alumina layer 21f, and the second The structure of the atmosphere introduction passage 52 (the second other space 52), the power source 62, and t

Abstract

The invention provides a gas detection device. The gas detection device is arranged in a limited current type gas sensor for detecting sulfur oxides contained in exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, and applies voltage and performs temperature control on an electrochemical cell (11c) at a speed of allowing decomposed products of sulfur oxides contained in the detected gas to be absorbed on a cathode (11a) greater than a speed of allowing the decomposed products to be desorbed from the cathode when gas detection is not executed. The state is kept in a preset duration, and then the decomposed products of the sulfur oxides, absorbed on the cathode can be removed from the cathode. Accordingly, a gas detection device which can accurately detect the sulfur oxides contained in the detected gas is provided.
