Abstract

Techniques for determining an effective capacity of a driver segment pool generated from at least one storage driver group are disclosed. A memory driver sub-group having a relatively higher physicalcapacity is selected from the group. The number of the storage drivers in the sub-group is equal to the total number of driver sections indicated by each entry in the RAID mapping table. Each storagedriver in the sub-group is assigned an individual effective capacity equal to an individual physical capacity of the storage driver in the sub-group having a minimum individual physical capacity. Eachstorage driver in the group is assigned an individual effective capacity equal to its own physical capacity, which is not included in the sub-group. The effective capacity of the driver section poolis set to a sum of all individual effective capacities assigned to the storage drivers in the storage driver group.
