5 results about "Proximate" patented technology

Proximates are used in the analysis of biological materials as a decomposition of a human-consumable good into its major constituents. They are a good approximation of the contents of packaged comestible goods and serve as a cost-effective and easy verification of nutritional panels. This means that testing can be used to verify lots, but cannot be used to validate a food processor or food processing facility; instead, a nutritional assay must be conducted on the product to qualify said producers. Nutritional panels in the United States are regulated by the FDA and must undergo rigorous testing to ensure the exact and precise content of nutrients. This should prevent food processors from making unfounded claims to the public.

Portable water quality monitoring and treatment system

ActiveUS20070090056A1Improve filtration efficiencyReduce turbidityWater treatment parameter controlOther chemical processesSite monitoringProximate
A portable system for on-site monitoring and treatment of water comprising a protective enclosure adapted to be positioned proximate a site of collected water, an internal fluid flow system disposed within the enclosure comprising a first conduit extending from a dirty water inlet on the enclosure to a pair of dirty water outlets and a second conduit extending from a return water inlet on the enclosure to a filtered water outlet and a clean water outlet. Probes are provided in the conduits for monitoring fluid parameters therein and communicating those parameters to a controller within the enclosure. The controller compares the measured parameter levels with predetermined acceptable levels and actuates valve members in said conduits in response to the measured parameter levels to selectively communicate the respective conduits with respective outlets for the treatment of water passing through the system.

A user engageable device disposed within the tobacco burning path of a smoking article's ember at a pre-selected point. The device may include a visual and / or audible and / or olfactory warning component which alerts the user in response to a proximate ember. This provides one or a combination of a visual, audible, or olfactory alert to the user that the ember has reached a predetermined point. The device is preferably in the form of a sleeve frictionally engageable around the smoking article, but can also may be engaged upon or impregnated into a wrapper of the article's cylinder. Alternatively, the sleeve type device may be disposed within the wrapper. Alternatively the indicator material may also be in the form of selectively placed integrated or stick-on patches.
