960 results about "Real-time computing" patented technology

In computer science, real-time computing (RTC), or reactive computing describes hardware and software systems subject to a "real-time constraint", for example from event to system response. Real-time programs must guarantee response within specified time constraints, often referred to as "deadlines". The correctness of these types of systems depends on their temporal aspects as well as their functional aspects. Real-time responses are often understood to be in the order of milliseconds, and sometimes microseconds. A system not specified as operating in real time cannot usually guarantee a response within any timeframe, although typical or expected response times may be given.

Techniques for planning a conference using location data

Techniques for scheduling a conference among multiple persons include receiving quorum data and location data. Quorum data indicates a quorum for a particular conference. Location data indicates locations of a plurality of persons who satisfy the quorum. A proposed location for the particular conference is determined based on the location data and the quorum data. These techniques allow location data to include presence data that describes a current location of a person or a state of communication of that person; and therefore allow presence data to be used in determining where to conduct a conference and when. For example, an organizer of a meeting and meeting invitees are notified when the people constituting a quorum cross paths at the same location, or are situated at sites that support remote conferencing.

Communication in a distributed system

Controllers communicate commands in terms of goals and constraints. A goal is an objective. A constraint is information regarding how the goal is to be achieved. For example, a constraint may specify when, or how much of, a resource may be used to achieve a goal. Additionally, or alternatively, a constraint may specify an acceptable or expected accuracy or tolerance regarding how the goal is achieved. Each controller is expected to achieve assigned goals in accord with associated constraints. Thereby, system communication may be reduced. If controllers achieve goals according to specified constraints, the controllers do not need to provide updates or be updated regarding the status of activities of other controllers or regarding other operational context information. In some embodiments, commands are generally not acknowledged. Instead, serving controllers respond to a command with an error message if a goal cannot be met in accord with an associated constraint.

A method and system for determining a route of an application in a network. The network includes a number of interconnected nodes, between a source node and a destination node. A sequence of application packets, being transmitted over an application port, are configured to expire at each one of a succession of nodes in the application route. Upon expiration, an error notification is generated by the node according to protocol, and received back at the source node. The error notification identifies the node from which it came, and a collection of error notification identifies the entire route of nodes.

The invention provides a position-based discount coupon management platform, releasing method and releasing system and an intelligent terminal. The electronic discount coupon releasing system comprises the position-based discount coupon management platform, a positioning service system and the intelligent terminal. The intelligent terminal obtains a terminal current position through the positioning service system and sends a request for acquiring discount coupons containing the discount coupons at the current position to the platform; according to position information carried in the request, the platform retrieves and releases discount coupons of shops close to the intelligent terminal in the discount coupons containing position tags; and the intelligent terminal receives and displays the discount coupons sent by the platform to enable users to select and use the discount coupons. By means of the technical scheme, an effective communication channel is established between shops and intelligent terminal users, and the fact that the discount coupons are released to the intelligent terminal users becoming customers of the shops most possibly is ensured, and potential customers active in surroundings of the shops are fully found for the shops.

Adaptive device-initiated polling

A method includes periodically sending a polling call to an enterprise system outside the firewall at a first polling rate during normal operating conditions, monitoring for a fault condition, periodically sending polling calls to the device outside the firewall at a second polling rate when a fault condition is detected, the second polling rate being higher than the first polling rate. The second polling rate is used as result of a fault condition. The method also includes sending a problem report with the polling calls when the fault condition is detected.

Touch sensing system and method for driving the same

A touch sensing system and a method for driving the same are disclosed. The touch sensing system includes a touch screen including touch sensors and a touch sensing circuit applying a driving signal to the touch sensors. The touch sensing circuit applies at least one first driving signal to a first position of the touch screen and applies at least one second driving signal to a second position of the touch screen. When RC delay of the first position is less than RC delay of the second position, at least one of a width and a voltage of the second driving signal is greater than the first driving signal, or the number of second driving signals is more than the number of first driving signals.

Traffic surveillance method and system

The invention relates generally to a method and system for monitoring traffic events at a predetermined location, using a temporary video camera set up to record traffic movements through an intersection or other location along a road. The method preferably comprises taking a video recording of the location, and then sending the recording to a foreign country where the recording can be reviewed manually at a reduced cost. To facilitate an accurate and consistent review of the recording, the invention preferably uses “event lines” that can be superimposed on the video monitor, wherein the event lines help determine when a vehicle has passed through an intersection, i.e., when a recordable traffic event occurs. The system also preferably uses a computer-operated program adapted to assist the operator in reviewing, verifying and summarizing the recorded information, wherein a particular key or keys can be pressed depending on the type of event to be indicated. The system is also able to identify the exact frame number of a recordable event that corresponds to an exact moment in real time, i.e., when the event actually occurred. A tripod-like apparatus for temporarily setting up a video camera in locations where no existing pole or structure is available, as well as a tamper-proof housing in which the video recording device can be temporarily mounted, can also be provided.

Delay-reduced stall avoidance mechanism for reordering a transport block

InactiveUS20060062223A1Reduce transmission delayAvoid procrastinationNetwork traffic/resource managementError preventionMissing dataUplink transmission
A method for implementing a stall avoidance mechanism during uplink transmission of data blocks from transmitter to a receiver includes first determining a missing data block in response to a successful receipt of a received data block at the receiver. Once the missing data block is determined, the receiver requests retransmission of the missing data block. The receiver starts a timer when the request for retransmission is made such that the timer has a time value based on the number of reception attempts of the received data block made by the receiver.

Monitoring and controlling the operation of devices in a distributed network of broadcast devices

ActiveUS20110206136A1Picture reproducers using cathode ray tubesPicture reproducers with optical-mechanical scanningTest engineerBroadcasting
The invention relates to a system and method for monitoring and controlling the operation of devices in a distributed network of broadcast devices, such as Set Top Boxes (STBs). Such devices typically require periodic updates as new versions of operating software is developed. However, it is not possible to guarantee that all devices that have received an updated software version are able to operate correctly. The system initiates a test for a STB and monitors in real time the state of the STB as the software download occurs. The state of the STB is reported to a system controller and the results are output to a test engineer. Other devices in the broadcast network can be controlled by the controller and various troubleshooting or operational tests performed.

Task-related communication via wireless communication hotspots

A mobile device is used to effect task-related communication with a remote entity via the communications infrastructure of a wireless hotspot through which the mobile device is moving. The device includes a first estimation arrangement for estimating the time remaining before the mobile device leaves the coverage zone of the hotspot having regard to the predicted movement of the device. The device further includes a second estimation arrangement for estimating the time needed to complete the task-related communication. These two time estimates are compared with each other by a monitor unit of the device to determine whether there is sufficient time to complete the task-related communication.
