Method and system for session mobility between end user communication devices

InactiveUS20090132712A1Multiple digital computer combinationsData switching networksSession managementSession Initiation Protocol
A method and system for providing session mobility between end user communication devices, such as between session initiation protocol (SIP) devices and universal plug and play (UPnP) devices. The session mobility methods and systems make use of a session manager, which can be part of a bridge coupled between the communication devices involved in a communication session, that allows the session to be moved to another end user communication device. The session manager controls the transfer of communication sessions between the end user communication devices. The session manager also is configured to control and manage the addition of end user communication devices to existing sessions between communication devices. As part of this session mobility between communication devices, the session manager can create a virtual device within the bridge to represent an actual communication device that is communicating with a different communication device in a different domain within the communication session.

Relative addressing for network elements

A relative address protocol for communicating message packets along a linear chain network or quasi-linear chain network is disclosed. The protocol includes a relative destination address field that includes a counter having a preselected initial value at a source node. The initial value is a function of the desired number of node hops that the message packet should travel from the source node. The counter is adjusted in value at each subsequent node by a preselected step in value. When the counter value reaches a trigger value the message packet is accepted by a destination node. In a preferred embodiment, a relative source address field stores the initial value so that the destination node may return a status message to the source node.

Effective policies and policy enforcement using characterization of flow content and content-independent flow information

Flexible network policies might be enforced by (a) obtaining a flow of network packets, (b) determining a content characteristic by characterizing content of the flow using bit-stream level statistics, (c) determining content-independent flow characteristics, port-independent flow characteristics, and / or application header-independent flow characteristics, and (d) enforcing a policy on the flow using both (1) the determined content characteristic and the (2) determined content-independent flow characteristics, port-independent flow characteristics, and / or application header-independent flow characteristics.

System and method for switching between conversations in instant messaging applications

A system and method are provided for switching between conversations in instant messaging applications. The instant messaging application is configured for displaying a list of conversations upon detecting selection of the option within a menu or link within the conversation screen and permit navigation to another conversation. The conversations may be prioritized based first on whether the conversation has any unread messages and within the grouping of those conversations having unread messages, may be prioritized based on when the last activity occurred. In this way, the user has easiest access to conversations with the most recent activity with the ability to scroll down the list of conversations to continue an older conversation if desired.

Communication in a distributed system

Controllers communicate commands in terms of goals and constraints. A goal is an objective. A constraint is information regarding how the goal is to be achieved. For example, a constraint may specify when, or how much of, a resource may be used to achieve a goal. Additionally, or alternatively, a constraint may specify an acceptable or expected accuracy or tolerance regarding how the goal is achieved. Each controller is expected to achieve assigned goals in accord with associated constraints. Thereby, system communication may be reduced. If controllers achieve goals according to specified constraints, the controllers do not need to provide updates or be updated regarding the status of activities of other controllers or regarding other operational context information. In some embodiments, commands are generally not acknowledged. Instead, serving controllers respond to a command with an error message if a goal cannot be met in accord with an associated constraint.

Method and apparatus for use in remote diagnostics

The present invention provides an apparatus, system and method for use in remotely diagnosing electronic devices and / or providing content. The method for use in remotely diagnosing includes the initiating a diagnostic analysis of an electronic device, identifying the electronic device, receiving scripts communicated over a distributed network for diagnosing, remotely initiating diagnostic instructions with the scripts and receiving a response based on the instruction. The method can further determine further diagnostic instructions based on responses, and remotely initiate further instructions with the scripts. Additionally, a system for use in remotely diagnosing electronic devices includes a script generator coupled with a distributed network, and a remote diagnostic controller coupled with the distributed network and with an electronic device. The script generator compiles scripts and forwards them over the distributed network. The diagnostic controller implements the scripts to forward instructions to and to receive replies from the electronic device.

Adjusting utilization of network bandwidth in a network comprising a media server and a media client is provided. The media client is connected to a display screen, and a video media is streamed from the media server to the media client. A distance between the display screen and a viewer is measured, and an indication of tile distance is sent to the media server. A resolution of the streaming video media is then adjusted in accordance with the indication, and the streaming video media with the updated resolution is received by the media client.

Data format conversion device for wire/wireless local-area communication between wireless portable terminal and wire communication device and wire/wireless communication system using the same

InactiveUS20050157748A1Cordless telephonesInformation formatInternet communicationCommunications system
A system wherein a mobile terminal can control the operation of an external communication device using wire/wireless local-area communication. The mobile terminal includes a local-area wireless communication module, and acts to perform the local-area wireless communication using the local-area wireless communication module. The communication device accesses an Internet communication network in response to an Internet access command input thereto to perform wire Internet communication. A wire/wireless data format conversion device is provided to perform the local-area wireless communication with the mobile terminal and wire communication with the communication device, and, in order to enable communication between the mobile terminal and the communication device, convert the format of received data into a format recognizable by a destination device, said destination device being one of the mobile terminal and communication device, and send the resulting data to the destination device over a corresponding transmission channel. The wire/wireless data format conversion device, upon receiving the Internet access command from the mobile terminal, converts the format of the received Internet access command into one recognizable by the communication device and sends the resulting Internet access command to the communication device and, upon receiving Internet access result information from the communication device, converts the format of the received result information into one recognizable by the mobile terminal and transmits the resulting result information to the mobile terminal.

UART (universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter) serial port communication method based on GPIO (general purpose input/output) handshake and EDMA (enhanced direct memory access)

ActiveCN106155960AIncrease or decrease sizeAvoid reading errorsElectric digital data processingUniversal asynchronous receiver/transmitterHandshake
The invention discloses a UART (universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter) serial port communication method based on GPIO (general purpose input/output) handshake and EDMA (enhanced direct memory access). According to the method, data migration from transmitting and receiving FIFO of UART to an external data buffer is completed automatically on the basis of an EDMA function, and frequent intervention of CPU (central processing unit) is not needed; a receiving terminal is informed through GPIO handshake signals to receive data packets, and the boundaries of the received data packets can be rapidly distinguished and an address of a next to-be-received data packet can be automatically updated; therefore, the efficiency of communication adopting UART serial ports is greatly improved, frequent interruption to CPU processing is reduced when the UART transmits and receives the data pockets, and the utilization rate of CPU resources can be increased. Meanwhile, according to the scheme, the GPIO signals are utilized to have an appointment with opposite terminal equipment, and convenience produced when the opposite terminal equipment uses the UART for receiving is improved to a certain degree, so that the work efficiency of communication adopting the UART serial ports is improved at the level of the overall system.
