Treatment related quantitative decision engine

ActiveUS20120016690A1Medical data miningData processing applicationsComputerized systemTreatment options
A system and method, for use with a computer system, generate a report to help decide among a plurality of treatment options for a patient with a given medical condition. To that end, the system and method receive patient information related to the patient and the medical condition, and query a treatment option database to generate a plurality of potential treatment options for the medical condition. In a corresponding manner, the system and method also receive preference information indicative of the patient's preference(s) for potential treatment outcomes of the treatment options. The patient's preference(s) are used to produce a preference value. The system and method also analyze indexed study data relating to the plurality of treatment options to produce (e.g., at least in part in a computer process), based on the analysis of the indexed data, a study score for each of the treatment options. Accordingly, for each treatment option, the method and apparatus produce a treatment score as a function of at least the preference value and the study score, thus permitting generation of a report listing the treatment options and a) the treatment scores or b) the information derived from the treatment scores.

File sharing system with data mirroring by storage systems

InactiveUS7281032B2Reduce CPU loadLoad balancingData processing applicationsMultiple digital computer combinationsClustered file systemFile system
A system for optimizing data access is provided. The system includes a cluster file system server, a number of cluster file system clients, and a storage system. The storage system includes disk drives organized as paired master disk drive and one or more mirrored disk drives having copies of the data stored on the master disk drive. When a file is needed, the server determines which pair has the needed file, and then determines which disk drive within the pair should be accessed. The determination is made to balance the access load within the pair, and can select to retrieve the file from the drive which is least frequently accessed. The identification of the disk drive to be accessed is then forwarded to the client thereby allowing the client to access the appropriate disk drive to retrieve the file.

Electricity suppressing type electricity and heat optimizing control device, optimizing method, and optimizing program

ActiveUS20140188295A1Electrical degradationLevel controlBatteries circuit arrangementsTime scheduleProcess engineering
An optimized operating schedule is obtained while avoiding a complexity of formulation and optimization in response to an incentive type demand response. A device includes an energy predictor 10 setting a predicted value of energy of a control-target device 2 within a predetermined future period, a schedule optimizer 11 optimizing the operating schedule of the control-target device 2 within the predetermined period in accordance with a predetermined evaluation barometer, an incentive acceptance determiner 12 determining a time with a possibility that an incentive is receivable, an electricity suppressing schedule optimizer 13 optimizing, for a time with a possibility that the incentive is receivable, the operating schedule of the control-target device 2 based on a unit price of electricity fee having a unit price for calculating the incentive taken into consideration, and an adopted schedule selector 14 selecting either one of the operating schedules.

Method and System for Integrating Browsing Histories with Media Playlists

InactiveUS20080288536A1Ensure continuityDigital data information retrievalData processing applicationsWeb browserDocument recognition
A method for maintaining a media playlist (100) and a browsing history list of a media browsing session on a media playback device. The media playlist (100) includes a reference to at least one media document available for playback on the device, and a playlist pointer (112) identifying a currently-playing media document in the playlist (100). The browsing history list includes references to zero or more content documents previously accessed in the media browsing session. Responsive to termination of playback of a first media document and loading for playback of a second media document on the media playback device, the method includes the steps of updating the playlist pointer (112) to identify the second media document as the currently-playing media document, and updating the browsing history list to include a reference to the first media document as the most recently accessed content document. The method provides a user of a media playback device with access to a playlist, as commonly provided with media players, as well as a history list, as commonly provided with web browsers, which are integrated in a consistent manner to facilitate efficient and intuitive media browsing. A corresponding media playback device and software product are also provided.

System and Method for the Designation of Items in a Virtual Universe

InactiveUS20110055919A1Facilitates tracking and recoveryData processing applicationsDigital data processing detailsHuman–computer interactionVirtual universe
The present invention enables items in a Virtual Universe to be tagged as available for pickup by one or more designated users. The present invention permits a designated user to be alerted that there is an item designated for that user / avatar and available for pick-up at a location in the Virtual Universe. A user may designate another user (or user's avatar), for example, a minor for whom the designating user has responsibility, as an “item” to be tracked. For privacy and other reasons, this and other features may be implemented on an opt-in basis.

Membership Tracking and Data Eviction in Mobile Middleware Scenarios

ActiveUS20120023067A1Data processing applicationsDigital data processing detailsReference typeMobile business
Systems, methods, and computer program products are provided for ensuring coherency between user data in a client and their corresponding state in enterprise information systems (EIS) wherein data migrates and subscriptions change over time. A mobile business object (MBO) identifies an update to a subscription or a change in set membership in order to provide updates to a client device and EIS systems. Cached data is filtered for client device users who synchronize data they are interested in (i.e., subscribed to). In an embodiment, the method keeps track of set membership by remembering on a per remote identifier / business object basis the set membership for a parent business object. When set membership changes, the method sends delete notifications to the device to remove ex-members. The method recognizes common relationship types in a business scenario and handles reference-type relationships as well as containment-type relationships. The methods include key tracking and membership tracking.
