Interactive multi media user interface using affinity based categorization

InactiveUS7284202B1High communication latencyTelevision system detailsDigital data information retrievalThe InternetE-commerce
Computing devices capable of internetworking and receiving, storing and viewing programmed (scheduled) television and multimedia content provide a platform for access to a combination of Internet and Television content and services. On this platform, a mix of pre-scripted and live interactive dialog (chat with offered responses) are broadcast by a connected server or servers to provide supplemental entertainment, information regarding programmed content, enhancements to scheduled television advertising, a community experience, and an interface to Internet applications and services. The dialog provides a “Social Interface” allowing fictional and non-fictional characters to interact with viewers. The fictional and non-fictional characters are each emblematic of a specific affinity group categorization, which a user personally identifies with and is drawn to. Selection of an affinity character also provides a filter for selecting internet and broadcast content associated with that character. Second level content is also associated with and mediated by each character. This provides e-commerce opportunities whereby sponsors can direct advertising content based upon factors such as the relative popularity of each character or the demographic group associated with each character.

Method and apparatus for data retention in a storage system

ActiveUS20050125411A1Digital data information retrievalMemory loss protectionRetention periodSoftware engineering
A system and method are provided for retention of data on a storage system. An application program provides the storage system with data to be stored on the storage system. The application program also provides the storage system with a retention period that indicates a period of time for which the data may not be deleted. When the storage system receives a request to delete the data, it first evaluates the retention period associated with that data to determine if the retention period has expired. If the retention period has not expired, the storage system denies the request to delete the data.

Database system using batch-oriented computation

Systems, methods, and computer program for processing large volumes of data in travel and travel-related applications. A computation platform is configured to receive batch re-computation orders from the search platform, process a batch re-computation order by computing the plurality of database query results according to a batch processing schedule within a given time frame, and return the computed database query results resulting from the batch re-computation order to the search platform. Each batch re-computation order instructs the computation platform to compute a plurality of database query results. A search platform is configured to maintain the computed database query results in a memory, and to make the computed database query results available to clients connected to the search platform and to transmit the batch re-computation orders to the computation platform.

Method, device and system for searching repeated data

An embodiment of the invention provides a method, a device and a system for searching repeated data. After a repeated-deleting file is partitioned into blocks, fingerprint information of block data is utilized to determine a metadata server responsible for search. When the fingerprint information of the block data is found to be stored in a database by search, the block data corresponding to the fingerprint information of the block data are transmitted to a shared-file system and are not required to be transmitted to the metadata server for storage. Compared with the prior art, the method, the device and the system for searching the repeated data reduce link cost to a large extent and improve system performance.

Method and System for Integrating Browsing Histories with Media Playlists

InactiveUS20080288536A1Ensure continuityDigital data information retrievalData processing applicationsWeb browserDocument recognition
A method for maintaining a media playlist (100) and a browsing history list of a media browsing session on a media playback device. The media playlist (100) includes a reference to at least one media document available for playback on the device, and a playlist pointer (112) identifying a currently-playing media document in the playlist (100). The browsing history list includes references to zero or more content documents previously accessed in the media browsing session. Responsive to termination of playback of a first media document and loading for playback of a second media document on the media playback device, the method includes the steps of updating the playlist pointer (112) to identify the second media document as the currently-playing media document, and updating the browsing history list to include a reference to the first media document as the most recently accessed content document. The method provides a user of a media playback device with access to a playlist, as commonly provided with media players, as well as a history list, as commonly provided with web browsers, which are integrated in a consistent manner to facilitate efficient and intuitive media browsing. A corresponding media playback device and software product are also provided.

Outputting dynamic local content on mobile devices

ActiveUS7640491B2Easy to displayPromote disseminationDigital data information retrievalNatural language data processingDisplay deviceProtocol for Carrying Authentication for Network Access
Automatically displaying updated and relevant content on the display of a mobile computing device. In response to receiving a registration that includes a request for particular dynamic content, a subscription service creates a template file. The template file includes static content, references to dynamic content, and corresponding layout information. The template file is transferred to and stored on a mobile computing device. When dynamic content is updated the dynamic content is pushed to the mobile computing device via a push gateway. Dynamic content may be included in an service indication message that is pushed to the mobile computing device via a wireless protocol. Dynamic content may be stored in an update store included in the mobile computing device. At an appropriate time computer-executable instructions may be executed that merge content from the update store into the template file for display on a display device.

Efficient Pipelined Binary Search

An apparatus and machine readable storage medium for performing a binary search of an ordered list containing 2N values, where N is an integer greater than one. The apparatus may include a pipeline having N stages numbered 1 to N in sequence. Stage M of the pipeline, where M is in integer from 1 to N, may include a memory storing 2M-1 values from the ordered list, a comparator to compare the key to a value read from the memory based on comparison results from previous stages in the pipeline, and a result storage register to store a comparison result from the comparator and the comparison results from the previous stages in the pipeline.
