A technique for managing the session state of a web application during transaction processing. When a message is exchanged between a web client and a web server, such as a web client request or a web server response, session information therein is stored on behalf of the client. Following an interruption in session state, the session state may be recreated by using the stored session information.

A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) may include a plurality of nodes for transmitting data therebetween and a policing node. The policing node may detect intrusions into the MANET by monitoring transmissions among the plurality of nodes to detect transmissions during an unauthorized period and generate an intrusion alert based thereon. The policing node may also detect intrusions based upon one or more of integrity check values which do not correspond with respective data packets, usage of non-consecutive media access control (MAC) sequence numbers by a node, and collisions of packet types and/or MAC addresses.

Access to a privileged account is managed by first requiring authentication of a user logging into the account and then performing a policy evaluation to determine whether the identified user is allowed to log in using the privileged identity. Preferably, the authentication is a two factor authentication. The policy evaluation preferably enforces a policy, such as a role-based access control, and a context-based access control, a combination of such access controls, or the like. Thus, according to this approach, the entity is provided access to the privileged account if the user's identity is verified and a policy is met. Provided are a system and method for supporting communication between application programs and the processing of messages by those programs. A table driven approach is used to select appropriate components of modular application programs to process received messages. The selection is carried out in dependence on associations between message types (e.g. request, inform, reply) and other characteristics of the message (e.g. whether the message is an expected reply (as identified by an identifier value). Also used in said selection are dynamic characteristics of the message or the system (e.g. possibly expiry of a timeout, or the state of an application). Rules combine these criteria and determine the conditions for invoking an application program component. Also provided is a mechanism for differentiating between reply messages which are received out of serial sequence but are still current and messages which are invalid.

A system and method for network communication, comprising a device coupled between a computer and a network to receive from the computer a Transport Control Protocol (TCP) connection, the device receiving from the network at least one packet associated with the TCP connection and processing a TCP header for the at least one packet, the computer having a memory storing instructions to pass the TCP connection to the device in first and second commands, the first command signaling an intent to transfer of the TCP connection, the second command responsive to an indication from the device that the device is prepared to receive the TCP connection.

A system and method for interfacing TCP Offload Engines (TOE) into an operating system to improve system performance and reduce CPU utilization. The system and method places an interposed filter before the generic user space socket library near the top of the TCP stack to intercept at the earliest possible layer a user application network socket request. The interposed filter determines whether an I/O request is targeted for a generic network adapter or a full TOE network adapter. For I/O requests that are targeted to a full TOE network adapter, the request is formatted to meet the requirements of the full TOE driver and sent directly to that driver, bypassing the operating system's generic user space socket library and socket driver in kernel space. This system and method takes full advantage of the capabilities offered by TOE hardware.

A method and apparatus for monitoring the performance of a dedicated communications medium in a switched data networking environment wherein a probe having a bypass circuit allows promiscuous monitoring of all traffic between a switch and a network device, such as a file server, in either direction, and in full duplex mode. Additionally, the bypass circuit eliminates the requirement for a separate repeater between the switch and the network device.

The subject matter herein generally relates to transcoding content, typically audio/video files though not limited to such, from one version to another in preparation for online streaming or other delivery to end users. Such transcoding may involve converting from one format to another (e.g., changing codecs or container formats), or creating multiple versions of an original source file in different bitrates, frame-sizes, or otherwise, to support distribution to a wide array of devices and to utilize performance-enhancing technologies like adaptive bitrate streaming. A transcoding platform is described herein that, in certain embodiments, leverages distributed computing techniques to transcode content in parallel across a platform of machines that are preferably idle or low-utilization resources of a content delivery network. The transcoding system also utilizes, in certain embodiments, improved techniques for segmenting the original source file so as to enable different segments to be sent to different machines for parallel transcodes.

Multiple service label types may be used in a given network element to optimize scalability of the data plane, minimize overhead associated with service label management, and allow new services to be offered. Service label management may be done in a dynamic manner so that service labels may be selected for routes in a dynamic fashion as the network changes. VPNs handled by the network element may have different types of service labels, and different routes within a particular VPN may be allocated different service label types. Service label requests may be stored on the data plane to allow a service label request database to be restored from the data plane upon a control plane failure, so that new service labels are not required to be allocated after a control plane failure.

Context files store instructions for controlling the operations of the programmable search engine. The context files are processed by various context processors, which use the instructions therein to provide various pre-processing, post-processing, and search engine control operations. Spam related and biased contexts and search results are identified using offline and query time processing stages, and the context files from vertical content providers associated with such spam and biased context and results are excluded from processing on direct user queries.

A memory alignment system for efficient data transfer between a host system and a remote system comprises a data communications controller configured to align transmitted and received data based on formatting information received from the host system. When transmitting data from local system memory, for example over an Ethernet connection, communications control driver software may first write formatting information corresponding to the data into a configurable transmit data buffer. The data communications controller is operable to align the data based on the formatting information as the driver software moves the data into the transmit data buffer. Similarly, the driver software may write formatting information for receive data into a receive-format configuration buffer. The data communications controller may align the receive data based on the receive-formatting information as the receive data is being written into a configurable receive buffer. As the data communications controller performs all the required data alignment, no data alignment by the host processor is required.

A technique is disclosed that allows different computers in a network to create an identifier that uniquely identifies the network. The technique allows the unique identifier to be consistently created over time, regardless of the particular make up of the computing devices in the network at any particular point time. In some implementation, a computer within the network hosts the identification creation tool. In order to create a unique identifier for the network, the tool identifies each network adapter used by the host computer. Using this information, the tool identifies a gateway device used by the network adapter or adapters, and then determines the physical network address of that gateway device. For example, if the network is an Ethernet network, the tool will determine the medial access control (MAC) address for the gateway device. The tool then creates a unique identifier for the network based upon the physical address. The unique network identifier can then be used to associate the billing a usage fee, such as a licensing fee, with the network rather than with an individual computer within the network. Alternately or additionally, the unique network identifier can be used to maintain and support the gateway device for the network.

An apparatus for providing direct data processing access in a network computing system environment. The system environment has a main storage which can be connected to one or more application servers and is in processing communication with an interface element. The interface element has at least one adapter and can be connected to one or more application user(s). One or more queues are established in the main storage that can handle data without causing interrupts in the running programs. Incoming data is received using the adapter and as data is received or modified, the status of the network computing system will be updated to reflect the new data or change. Data is then processed in the main storage after interrogating the multiple existing queues in the main storage simultaneously and forwarding them in turn to their appropriate destination or application server after a determination has been made by interrogating these queues.

A centralized service identifies a pool of devices that can be accessed by clients over a network. Devices can include a local or network-accessible device, and a configurable file that represents a portion of a device (e.g., a SCSI storage device). In some cases, the devices (or the file representing a portion of the device) can be identified by an assigned logical unit number. The centralized service assigns one or more devices to a target, and associates client information with the target. The centralized service also can also assign the target a logical unit number, and assign the target to a protocol-independent portal, which further operates through protocol-dependent miniports. In one embodiment, a client accesses a network device by accessing the appropriate port through an appropriate miniport protocol (e.g., Ethernet, fiber channel, etc.), and by submitting appropriate target authorization.

A method for monitoring and migrating a primary server transmitting a real time streaming protocol (RTSP) stream is provided. Backup servers monitor at least one primary server to determining whether the primary server is active. Upon determining that a primary server is inactive, the backup servers take over the connection on which the inactive primary server was streaming data and then take over the transmission of the RTSP stream. The backup server can further derive the position in a file of the next data needed to be transmitted.

Data transmission system comprising at least a data transmission network based upon an IP protocol, at least a content server for providing data requested by a user connected to the network, a plurality of proxies having a cache function, each proxy capable of having stored the requested data and one of the proxies being a user proxy to which is addressed the request sent by the user, and a domain name server for converting a server name provided by the user to the user proxy into an IP address of the content server. The domain name server includes table means for providing an IP address of a proxy amongst the proxies capable of having stored the requested data, the table means providing the proxy IP address to the user proxy whereby the requested data can be provided to the user by the proxy storing the requested data without requesting the data from the content server.

A method and system for monitoring users on one or more computer networks, disassociating personally identifiable information from the collected data, and storing it in a database so that the privacy of the users is protected. The system receives a user identifier and uses it to creates an anonymized identifier, defined as a user identifier stripped of all personally identifiable information. The anonymized identifier is then associated with one or more users' computer network transactions. The data is stored by a collection engine and then aggregated to a central database server across a computer network.

Techniques are provided for securely accelerating external domains locally. Secure client requests directed to an external domain are forwarded to a local domain accelerator. The local domain accelerator communicates securely with the client as if it were the external domain. The local domain accelerator communicates securely with the external domain and acquires data to service the client requests within a local cache. The data is vended from the local cache via secure communications made to the client.
