[0021]The animal carrier of the invention is designed with a number of improvements relative to traditional animal carriers. In particular, the animal carrier of the invention features a detachable funnel that provides safe and quick entry of the animal (e.g., a cat, dog, rat, ferret, guinea pig, chinchilla, rabbit, or chicken) into the carrier while simultaneously reducing the hassle experienced by the person handling the animal during loading into the carrier. The funnel provides open communication to the interior of the carrier and has an opening (the entry point) and an exit (the attachment point) that is larger than the animal; the opening is larger in diameter than the exit. The funnel is obstacle free and has a smooth interior into which the animal fits easily. By “smooth” is meant that there are no significant ridges, grooves, ledges or seams in the interior and / or outer edge of the funnel that an animal could use to gain traction, e.g., by using their claws, and thereby avoi

Abstract

The invention features an animal carrier that is designed to more easily place an animal (e.g., a cat or dog) into the carrier. The carrier features a funnel that can be attached to the body of the carrier, that is sized to permit passage of the animal through the funnel, that is oriented to convey the animal by gravity into the carrier, and that can be removed once the animal has been delivered into the carrier. The invention also features a retrofit funnel that is adapted to be securely attached to an opening of a standard animal carrier.
