A method for purifying potassium nitrate comprises the following steps: S1, washing raw materials sufficiently, separating solid and liquid to obtain filter cake and filtrate; S2, dissolving that filter cake to form a saturated solution, adding KOH solution into the saturated solution for sufficient reaction, filtering out the precipitate after the reaction, recrystallizing the solution, and finally washing and drying the crystals. The potassium nitrate purifying method of the invention has the advantages of simple production process, the purity of the potassium nitrate product obtained by theproduction reaches over 99.99%, meets the high-purity grade potassium nitrate standard (industrial potassium nitrate GB1918-2011), and meets the requirements of potassium nitrate products for opticalglass. In particular, the method for purifying potassium nitrate of the present invention can adopt agricultural grade potassium nitrate, industrial grade potassium nitrate and reinforced optical glass salt bath inactivated potassium nitrate as raw materials, thereby reducing the production cost.
