The instant invention relates generally to catheters and to introducer catheters used to help deliver catheters or other medical devices to locations within the human body. In particular, the instant invention relates to large diameter catheters and introducer catheters having a torque transfer layer that includes at least two flat wires braided into a wire mesh. Systems for detecting when catheter electrodes enter into and exit from an introducer are disclosed. In one form, a system detects a relative position of a catheter (comprising a marker band and an electrode) and an introducer (comprising a proximity sensor adapted to sense the marker band), while the catheter and introducer are in a human body. The system may comprise an electronic control unit to analyze signals from the catheter and/or the introducer, to determine whether the catheter electrode is within the introducer; and to disregard data collected from the electrode when that electrode is in the introducer. The sensor may be on the catheter and the sensed element may be on the introducer. The sensed element may comprise one or several marker bands. A marker band may be applied during the manufacture of a medical device or during its use and is any element capable of electromagnetic detection.

A catheter system and method is provided for overcoming various problems commonly associated with the application of regional anesthesia. Disclosed herein are several embodiments for providing continuous regional anesthesia. In general, the catheter system includes an epidural catheter, an epidural needle, tubing for optional fluid administration, an attached conductive wire (for connection to a nerve stimulator) and a catheter introducer, which is integrated within the proximal hub of the insulated needle. The methods involve providing a mixture comprising about 15 weight % to about 80 weight % of a hydrophilic acrylic oligomer, about 10 weight % to about 80 weight % of a multifunctional acrylic monomer, about 5 weight % to about 40 weight % of an adhesion-promoting acrylic or vinyl monomer, and about 0.1 weight % to about 15 weight % of a metal salt; and exposing the mixture to a radiation source to cure at least a portion of the mixture, thereby forming an antimicrobial resin.

A method for estimating the force on a distal end of a working catheter includes positioning a portion of a robotically controlled guide catheter and working catheter into a body lumen wherein a distal end of the working catheter projects distally from a distal end of the guide catheter. The working catheter and guide catheter are dithered with respect to one another using a dithering device operatively connected to a proximal portion of the working catheter. The coupling may occur directly to the working catheter or via a seal such as a Touhy seal. The force experienced by the working catheter at a proximal region is measured through at least one dithering cycle. The force at the distal end of the working catheter is then estimated based on the measured force at the proximal region. The estimated force may be displayed to a physician on, for example, a monitor.

The present invention provides a novel construction for a catheter that includes backflow prevention in the form of a check valve, which keeps the flow of drained fluid material from reentering the patient. The catheter construction of the present invention provides a standard single or multiple lumen tube assembly that extends rearwardly from the insertion end of the catheter to the contact end wherein on the discharge lumen a one way check valve is provided. It is an important feature of the present invention that the check valve is provided as close to the terminal end of the contact end as possible without interfering with the necessary accessory attachment that is typically made thereto. Further, an interlock mechanism may be provided at the terminal end of the catheter for connecting accessories in a positive locking manner. The combination of the valve and the interlock mechanism provides a notable safety and performance improvement that has been previously unknown in the prior art.

The distance between the transmit/receive acoustic transducer and the echo acoustic transducer is determined as a function of the transmit time and the receive time.

A blood pressure information measurement device includes light emitting elements and light receiving elements as a plurality of pairs of first and second sensors in a cuff. While the cuff pressure is increased, combinations of the plurality of pairs of the light emitting elements and the light receiving elements are switched, and volume pulse waves are obtained from each of the combinations. After increasing the cuff pressure, for each of the volume pulse waves corresponding to the combinations, a specific volume value at a point where the amount of volume change becomes maximal is extracted. Thereafter, based on values corresponding to the maximum and minimum blood pressure and the specific volume value, the sensors for measurement are determined.

A catheter remover includes a T-handle with an actuation mechanism. A shaft is attached and disposed generally perpendicular to the T-handle. The invention discloses a large-flow anti-blocking washable drainage catheter. The groove tube comprises a center tube body and N supporting bodies extending outward in a radial mode along the center tube body. The supporting bodies divide the exterior of the center tube body into drainage channels of N sector regions, outer tube walls are arranged on the exteriors of the supporting bodies, the outer tube walls are provided with N strip-shaped groove openings corresponding to the N sector regions and serving as drainage openings, a plurality of washing holes are formed in the side portion of the center tube body, and the interior of the center tube body and the sector regions are communicated by the washing holes, wherein N is larger than or equal to three. The invention aims at providing a measurement support device, an endoscope system, and a processor for an endoscope system capable of displaying an accurate indicator with a simple configuration. In a measurement support device related to one aspect of the invention, the coordinates of a spot, and coordinates of points indicating an actual size of a measurement target in a subject and indicating a circular marker distorted in accordance with distortion aberration of an imaging optical system are stored in association with each other in a storage unit, the coordinates of the points indicating the circular marker are acquired with reference to the storage unit on the basis of the measured coordinates of the spot, and the circular marker is displayed on the basis of the acquired coordinates. Thus, the distance measurement is unnecessary, the configuration is simple, and the processing load is low. Additionally, since the circular marker is displayed in the vicinity of the spot (for example, centering on a spot position), there is little deviation between the spot position and a marker position, the circular marker is accurate as an indicator. Additionally, since the indicator is not widely displayed, there is little processing load.

The invention relates to a freezing gun for puncture type cryotherapy. The freezing gun comprises a shell, a hydraulic transmission mechanism, a liquid storage container, a button and a plurality of freezing heads. One end of the hydraulic transmission mechanism is connected with the button, and the other end of the hydraulic transmission mechanism is connected with the liquid storage container; by pressing the button, the thrust of a syringe needle on the liquid storage container is effectively increased, and stable puncture is achieved. The freezing heads are installed at the front end of the liquid storage container and used for installing the syringe needle, and a liquid conduction device is arranged at the end, provided with the syringe needle, of the corresponding freezing head. After the syringe needle is installed, the interior of the corresponding freezing head is in a conduction state, and low-temperature liquid in the liquid storage container flows into the syringe needle through the corresponding freezing head. When the syringe needle is not mounted, the interiors of the freezing heads are in a closed state. The freezing gun is suitable for cryotherapy or injection of large-area irregular-shaped lesion areas, and the number and position of freezing needles can be adjusted according to the shapes and sizes of the areas, so that cryotherapy is more precise and more efficient, and meanwhile the doctor-patient experience is effectively improved.
