The invention discloses a method and device for monitoring ash dirt on a convection heating surface of a boiler. The device comprises a sound wave guide tube, a sound wave receiver, a sound wave generator, a signal conditioner, a junction box, an input and output device, a power amplifier and an industrial personal computer. The method comprises the steps of: firstly, sending a sound wave signal by the industrial personal computer, amplifying with the power amplifier and then sending to the sound generator; secondly emitting sound wave by the wave generator, spreading the sound wave to a hearth of the boiler through the sound wave guide tube, receiving a sound wave return signal of the hearth of the boiler by the sound wave receiver, transmitting the sound wave return signal to the industrial personal computer; thirdly, measuring sound wave crossing time by the industrial personal computer, and solving the smoke side temperature of the boiler; and finally, solving an actual heat exchange coefficient and obtaining an ash dirt coefficient. The invention adopts a non-contact measurement manner, and can be applied to environments with high temperature and much dirt and pollution; and the device is simple in operation, and provides a clear and simple visualization interface.
