Electrographic printing wherein raised information, with a distinct tactile feel, can be printed by electrographic techniques. Such electrographic printing comprises the steps of forming a desired print image, electrographically, on a receiver member utilizing standard size marking particles; and in an area of the formed print image, where desired tactile feel, raised information is to be formed, selectively forming such tactile feel, raised information utilizing marking particles of a substantially larger size than the standard size marking particles of the desired print image.

A sheet processing system comprises a plurality of sheet processing devices, a primary sheet conveyance path, a secondary sheet conveyance path, and a controller which controls the sheet processing devices. When a voltage is applied from a power supply (not shown) to an exciting coil and an AC current flow through it, magnetic flux is generated around the exciting coil and a magnetic field is formed. A toner container includes a container body that is used to house a toner and that is detachably attachable to a mounting portion in a developing device; and an operating member that is used to open and close a shutter. A developing device for use with an image forming apparatus, includes: a developer carrying member for carrying a developer; a developer regulating member for regulating an amount of the developer carried on the developer carrying member; a first frame for supporting the developer regulating member; a fixing member for fixing the developer regulating member to the first frame; a second frame mounted to the first frame; and a molded resin portion formed by injecting a melted resin material into a space defined by the first and second frames. The molded resin portion is engaged with a first limiting portion provided as a part of the fixing member and projected into the space and is engaged with a second limiting portion provided as a part of the second frame to connect the first and second frame.

The sheet processing apparatus is provided with a second folding, conveying roller pair that discharges a folded sheet bundle with its folded portion being the leading edge and a folded bundle tray provided below the second folding, conveying roller pair on which the sheet bundle discharged by the second folding, conveying roller pair is to be stacked and that moves the stacked sheet bundle. When conducting a color-shift-correcting mode using a registration mark formed by the image forming means on an image carrier, the image detecting means outputs the image detection signal representing the line width of the registration mark and the control section calculates the line width of the registration from the image detection signal. The control means compares a line width of the registration mark with a predetermined reference value of the line width to discriminate between abnormality and normality. If normality, the control means continues the color-shift-correcting mode and if abnormality the control means conducts the image forming system restoration mode after stopping the execution of the color-shift-correcting mode. Therefore, even in the case where a white spot is generated for some reasons on the registration mark, the color-shift-correcting mode can be conducted on the normal registration mark with the help of the image forming system restoration mode.

An engaging unit engages a housing of a fixing device with a main body of an image forming apparatus in an engaged position, and disengages the housing from the main body in a disengaged position. An operating member operates the engaging unit from the engaged position to the disengaged position or vice versa. A fixing device has a fixing belt, a trembler coil for heating the fixing belt with magnetic flux, a ferrite core around which the trembler coil is wound, and a heater for heating the ferrite core. The ferrite core has a Curie temperature which is between a fixing temperature of the fixing belt and a smoking start temperature of the fixing belt. The heating of the ferrite core with the heater allows the temperature of the ferrite core to reach the Curie temperature before the temperature of the fixing belt reaches a smoking start temperature. Thereby, an excessive rise in temperature of the fixing belt is suppressed, which prevents the fixing belt from smoking and igniting.

A carrier for electrostatic latent image developer, including a core material and at least two or more resin-coated layers formed on the surface of the core material, wherein the resin-coated layers include a siloxane bond-containing coating resin containing an organic metal compound and a conductive material, the metal contained in the organic metal compound in the innermost resin-coated layer has an ionization potential of less than 7 eV, and the metal contained in the organic metal compound in the outermost resin-coated layer has an ionization potential of 7 eV or more.

The present invention relates to a page printer control method, a page printer therefor, for compressing print data for one page and for storing the compressed data in a memory, so that even when a printing resolution is changed in due to a memory shortage, the resolution can be used for all the pages of a document. According to the present invention, a system for controlling a page printer includes a memory, a controller for drawing print data, a compression circuit for compressing drawing data, an expanding circuit for expanding the compressed data, and a video output circuit for outputting expanded data to the printer engine as a video signal. The controller detects the remaining capacity of the compression data area in the memory, and when a memory shortage is detected, i.e., when insufficient storage capacity is available, the printing resolution is changed and the drawing process is performed, starting at the beginning of the job.

A sheet output device includes a sheet receiver and a group of rollers. The group of rollers includes a plurality of output rollers arranged in the widthwise direction of the sheet and a plurality of pinch rollers arranged upward of the plurality of output rollers. The plurality of pinch rollers pinch the sheet with the plurality of output rollers and transport the sheet onto the sheet receiver. A method of detecting a wrap jam or accordion jam type paper jam and stopping a printing process once a wrap jam or according jam type is detected and an image forming apparatus using the same are provided. The method of detecting the paper jam in the image forming apparatus includes sensing to detect a sheet of paper by using an exit sensor, detecting whether the sheet of paper passes between a transfer roller and an OPC (organic photoconductive) drum for a first time period if the exit sensor does not detect the sheet of paper, and stopping a printing operation of the image forming apparatus if the sheet of paper passes between the transfer roller and the OPC drum for the first time period. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce damage to a fusing roller and increase the lifetime of the fusing roller and other components of the image forming device, if a wrap jam or accordion jam type occurs.

A fixing device includes a heat source; a fixing member looped into a generally cylindrical shape to rotate in a circumferential direction thereof and partially heated by the heat source and to heat a surface of a recording medium bearing an unfixed toner image to fix the unfixed toner image thereon in a fixing process; a rotary pressing member disposed facing the fixing member to form a nip therebetween, through which the recording medium is transported in a transport direction; and a rotation driver to rotate one of the fixing member and the pressing member. In a case in which the fixing member is halted for a reason other than the fixing process while power of the fixing device is on, electric power is not supplied to the heat source and the fixing member is rotated by a predetermined amount or more after the fixing member is halted.

An image forming apparatus configured to, in a state where a voltage is applied to a charging unit, determine a surface potential of an image bearing member using a first voltage applied when a current value obtained by, after applying a predetermined voltage to a transfer unit, detecting the current value while changing the applied voltage to a positive direction reaches a discharge current value, and a second voltage applied to the transfer unit when a current value obtained by, after applying the predetermined voltage to the transfer unit, detecting the current value while changing the applied voltage to a negative direction reaches the discharge current value.

A toner including a mother toner comprising a binder resin and a calixarene having a halogen group, and a charge controlling agent having a halogen group that is present on a surface of the mother toner. The ratio of halogen ion to carbon ion on a surface of the toner is from 0.01 to 0.5, when determined by TOF-SIMS. The toner can be prepared by preparing a first liquid by dissolving or dispersing toner components including a calixarene having a halogen group and a binder resin and/or a precursor of the binder resin in an organic solvent; preparing a second liquid by emulsifying or dispersing the first liquid in an aqueous medium; removing the organic solvent from the second liquid; preparing a third liquid by washing the second liquid from which the organic solvent is removed; and adding a charge controlling agent having a halogen group to the third liquid.

An image forming apparatus includes: a plurality of image bearing members, provided in parallel, each for forming a toner image; a first intermediary transfer member for forming a primary transfer portion between itself and each of the image bearing members, wherein the toner images formed on the image bearing members are to be primary-transferred onto the first intermediary transfer member; a second intermediary transfer member onto which the toner images are to be secondary-transferred from the first intermediary transfer member; and a transfer member for tertiary-transferring the toner images from the second intermediary transfer member onto a recording material. The first and second intermediary transfer members are integrally assembled into a transfer unit. The transfer unit is movable relative to a main assembly of the image forming apparatus in a direction in which the image bearing members are provided in parallel.

A volume resistivity of the conductive layer before the test is 1.0×10⁸ Ω·cm to 5.0×1012 Ω·cm.

An acquisition unit acquires output data including first image data including first clear toner plane data and second image data including color plane data and second clear toner plane data. When the output data includes the first image data, a first output unit outputs first print data including first identification information representing an instruction to form an image on a first recording medium to which clear toner has not been applied to an image forming unit. When the output image includes the first image data and the second image data, a second output unit outputs second print data including second identification information representing an image formation instruction for a second recording medium to which the clear toner has been applied. When the output data does not include the first image data but includes the second image data, the second output unit outputs third print data including the first identification information.
